Dick Spring, Patron

DickSpring is a businessman and former senior Irish politician. He wasfirst elected as a Labour Party TD in 1981 and retained his seat until2002. He became Party Leader in 1982, and held this position until1997. He served as Minister for the Environment (1982–1983), Ministerfor Energy (1983–1987) and Minister for Foreign Affairs (1993–Nov.1994, Dec. 1994–1997). He also served as Tánaiste (Deputy Leader)during those three governments.

Heplayed Gaelic football and hurling for Kerry in the seventies. He thenwon rugby union caps for Ireland (1979) and Munster, and lined out forLondon Irish in England. He has a well known interest in golf &welcomed US President Clinton, amongst others, to play with him in hisclub, the famed Ballybunion Golf Club. Based in Tralee, Spring isExecutive Vice Chairman of FEXCO, the financial services firm which isheadquartered in Killorglin, County Kerry.

Peter Ryan, APIBF Co-Founder

Since September 2009 based in my hometown of Dublin with the Department of Foreign Affairs, having worked on Asia-related issues since 1997, working first in the Irish Embassies in Tokyo (1997 to 2000) & Seoul (2000-2002) before returning back to Dublin as Deputy Director (Asia-Pacific) in the Bilateral Economic Relations Division in the Department of Foreign Affairs (2002-2004).

I returned to Asia in 2004 working in a regional role for the Department of Communications, Marine & Natural Resources based at the Irish Embassy in Singapore.

In 2006 I was seconded to the Asia-Europe Foundation, an international organisation with 43 member countries in both regions with its HQ in Singapore.

I have always been involved with the GAA & continued that since first coming to Asia - together with a few stalwarts we set up the Asian County Board in 2006 & I serve as PRO. Recognising the potential of the GAA model, a few of us (Micheal Collins, Colin MacDonald, Moira Lynam & Paraic McGrath) got the first Asia Pacific Ireland Business Forum off the ground in 2007 with the help of Richard O' Brien, Ambassador of Ireland in Singapore, Michael Garvey of Enterprise Ireland & the Irish Business Association, Singapore.

Paraic McGrath


Paraic has been in Asia for 16 years currently residing in Singaporeworking as C.O.O Asia Pacific for the Irish company Intuition,a leadingknowledge services solutions provider.He is the current Chairman of theAsian GAA Board & Singapore Director of the Irish ExportersAssociation. He is married to Clara and has 3 children.

Micheal Collins


Micheal is an Irish entrepreneur in the education and software arenas.

His firm, Collins Kumarasinghe Associates, owns the trademarked Zone education brand, which aids students and professionals to gain entry into the world's top business schools and universities, and the Kraken Media brand, which is a digital media practice that enables forms to engage more with their customers online.

Brought up in Kildorrery, Co. Cork, Micheal obtained an MSc in theoretical physics in UCC, before capping with a higher diploma in Numerical Modelling and Mathematical Computing and entering the software industry in Dublin. Working for an Irish financial software firm, later moving to Corel corporation, Micheal worked with clients across Europe and North America, Micheal becoming a founding member of Corel's Professional services department. Moving to Spain, Micheal worked for a succession of internet consulting firms, finally spending three years in PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting (later acquired by IBM) in Madrid and London.

Taking a year out to take an MBA at INSEAD in France and Singapore, Micheal graduated and delivered the valedictorian address to his classmates. Staying in Singapore, Micheal cut his his entrepreneurial teeth by working in a financial services startup, then his own digital media concept for 12 months while serving as the Executive director of the Irish Business Association, before starting Collins Kumarasinghe Associates in 2006 with ex-workmate and INSEAD co-alum Nagitha Kumarasinghe. Micheal served as President of the Board of the European Chamber of Commerce, founding and chairing its Sustainability Committee along with running several other working groups, and engaging in direct government lobbying on behalf of collective European business interests. He founded the EU ASEAN Business Council, a senior level peer network of transational EU-based MNCs shared by the European Chambers of Commerce in ASEAN as a dialogue partner with the EU and ASEAN Institutions, and regional ASEAN governments, which enjoys the support of the governments of ASEAN, the EU Trade Commissioner and is the business partner for the ASEAN EU Business Summit.

Robert Agnew

Rob has ten years experience in the financial services and technologyindustries. In his last position before joining Matrix he was Directorfor Reuters Group plc�s asset management business in Asia. He hassuccessfully conducted a range of business development projectsincluding a distribution arrangement in China, content deals in HK anda joint venture partnership. He has lived and worked in Asia for sevenyears.He is a graduate of University College Dublin and has an MBA fromEdinburgh Business School.

Kieran Brennan

 

University director with responsibility for business and community engagement, and alumni relations. Broad academic and industry background with postgraduate degrees in medical science, computing and business. Experience in pharmaceutical services, software engineering, investment management and tertiary education.

Paul E Scales


Paul is a Chartered Surveyor and International Real Estate Investor and Developer. He graduated from Bolton Street and Trinity College Dublin and is currently a visiting lecturer to DIT and University of Ulster. He is also a Fellow of the Irish Auctioneers and Valuers Institute.
