New Currency Symbol expected for India

A five-member jury has chosen a new currency symbol for India designed by D. Udaya Kumar. The chosen symbol, one of five short-listed entries, will be submitted to the Cabinet for final approval.The symbol is a combination of the Devanagari ‘Ra’ and the Roman capital ‘R’ that will differentiate India’s rupee from Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka which also use ‘Rs’ to refer to their currency.
